My Top Autumn/Winter 2024 Fashion Buys

aw24, autumn wardrobe, autumn fashion trends, autumn winter style

As a self-confessed shopaholic and fashion girlie, nothing excites me more than the onslaught of everything Autumn from Pumpkin Spiced lattes…to the colours of falling leaves (elsewhere – not Dubai obvs!!!) and of course….a new season of fabulous fashion trends that can play a part in your existing capsule wardrobe or add a big dose of September freshness! Re-watching every season of The Gilmore Girls also facilitates my Autumn giddiness!

The good news is this season you’re likely to already have many of the newest trends hanging in your wardrobe. Rather than starting from scratch, designers have evolved existing aesthetics and styled classic pieces in slightly different ways for a fresh take that feels significantly Autumnal.  Long boho style maxi-dresses (potentially already hanging in your wardrobe), countryside-core (Wax/Rain coats), belts, leopard print and suede are all on the radar for AW24 and for many of us, these are styles that have been around for a very long time.  I for one, am glad to see them back for another season.

So without further ado, here are my top Autumn/Winter 2024 Fashion trends and buys for the coming season:

  • Leopard Print:

After THAT Ganni tie-front, puff sleeve leopard print blouse and trouser co-ord that went viral last summer and the ASOS dupe (which I ran to buy online) – you’ll be thrilled to know that leopard print is hanging around for AW24 and looks so fresh and perfect for the ‘ber’ months teamed with burgundy, cherry red, tan suede and other neutrals such as cream and brown.

  • Burgundy

One of my all time favourite colours and one which I am currently coveting – burgundy.  Granted there are many variations of the deep, reddish-brown shade from deep oxblood to rich merlot, its a colour that gives off a pure epitome of elegance and looks great paired with black, cream, camel, grey and denim. Here’s one of my favourite ways to wear it.

  • Boho Chic

I feel like I’m reliving my naughties era with the resurgence of the long maxi dresses which had us all idolising Sienna Miller for many many years.  Boho chic is back but with a more pared back vibe. Team with slouchy knee-high suede boots, large aviator sunglasses  and large suede tote bags.

  • Suede

Staying a tad on the boho chic theme, suede jackets in particular (as well as accessories and clothing) have been popping up in all the stores and online and are set to be one of THE must-have items for AW24.  FYI…this can be quite an investment piece to buy into, there are plenty of affordable options on the high street but it’s a staple piece that always looks good in particular with denim and is something you would reach for time and time again

  • Belts

Literally THE hottest accessory of Autumn is the simple belt. A cinched waist is where it’s at and skinny, scrappy belts were all over the catwalks predicting a huge focal point for the AW24 season.

  • Utility Style Trench Coats

Another absolute staple is a trench coat.  This season sees both cropped and long trench coats adorning the high street and online.  Ideal for layering and incredibly chic.

  • Rugby Polo Shirts

Be prepared to dig into your wardrobe (or your husbands) to pull out that rugby shirt you wore (maybe for school) but many years ago…a.k.a – the noughties!  However, the preppy t-shirt has had a fresh take for 2024 and it’s more feminine and chic.

  • Pointed Toe Pumps

The pointed-toe heeled pump was the most popular shoe on the Autumn/Winter 2024 runways by a mile. Whether they’re poking out of a pair of jeans or paired with a sleek and chic dress, they are definitely the shoe of the moment. I also feel like ballet flats and Mary-Janes are still very much in their wearable and trendy era.

  • Barrel Jeans

Love them or loathe them, barrel jeans are having a moment and they are EVERYWHERE!  Usually high-waisted, barrel jeans have an extreme tapered leg, they come in all different washes and their slim ankle and baggy knee seem to be the perfect combination of relaxed and sleek.  I for one have already bought into this trend as I am SO not ready for skinny jeans to come back which I’ve heard…may happen soon!!!

  • Countryside Core/Barn Jackets

Another jacket having a key moment right now and becoming the next big trend – the Barn jacket! Rooted in farming history and made famous by British brand Barbour, the design (boxy silhouette with a waxed fabric and cord collar) has been a staple of British and Irish country style for generations. It always also makes an appearance every year at Glastonbury and is beginning to become a style staple for the AW24.
